Amorim spoke frankly about “United”: “It’s not just tactics, the team spirit is problematic”

The 2024/25 season for Manchester United is full of serious challenges in all aspects. The English giants, which are in the 16th place of the English Premier League, have accumulated a number of problems and the team is struggling to get out of this situation.

Club head coach Ruben Amorim spoke candidly about the state of the team, the mood of the players and his personal feelings at the latest press conference.

"Not winning is an unforgivable situation"

"To have played 25 games and won only 6 is a result that does not correspond to the name of Manchester United. I feel ashamed of this situation. We have come to this situation not only due to tactical mistakes on the pitch, but also problems in the team's morale," said the Portuguese specialist.

“We need to work not only on the pitch, but also off it”

Amorim insists that the problem lies not in the team’s performance on the pitch, but in the internal environment that shapes that performance:

“We need to relearn how to face the opponent as a team, how to deal with defeat. This team should not act as if it were playing a ‘friendly’ game.”

In his opinion, the lack of desire to win is reflected in the results.

“United” is a symbol of responsibility”

Amorim recalled that the Manchester United brand is associated with a great history and a heavy responsibility:

“We are Manchester United. Every player, manager and employee of this club must represent that name. We must never settle for being worse than other teams.”

Not a lack of confidence, but a crisis of spirit

The coach did not call the situation a “lack of confidence”. According to him, the problem is much deeper:

“This is not a lack of confidence, this is a crisis in the team’s mentality. Success is achieved not only by victories, but also by mental preparation, character and team spirit.”
