Only a few hours remain until one of the most important clashes in English football – the FA Cup final. On May 17, Manchester City and Crystal Palace will go head-to-head at London's historic Wembley Stadium.
This match holds particular significance for Uzbek football fans as well. The reason is that our compatriot Abdukodir Khusanov, who recently became one of Josep Guardiola’s players, has traveled with the team to London and is among the candidates for the final match roster.
Khusanov’s Debut and Rise at City
The 21-year-old defender, who joined Manchester City on January 20, 2024, has so far played in 9 matches for the team across the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League, and was named the club's Player of the Month in February.
However, over the past month and a half, he has not featured on the pitch, notably not even making the matchday squads for Premier League games, prompting various speculations among fans.
“CityXtra” Information — A Unique Hope
The famous English outlet cityxtra.co.uk confirmed that Khusanov traveled to London as part of the 28-man squad for the FA Cup final. This portal provided pleasing news for Uzbek fans, noting that Khusanov has actively participated in training and is prepared for the match.
City’s Serious Approach to the FA Cup
The Manchester club aims to win the FA Cup for the second time in three years. The most recent success was achieved in 2023 when Ilkay Gundogan scored twice against Manchester United in the final, securing a historic treble for City.
This season, however, the team faced injuries and periods of struggle, but towards the end of the season, they regained consistency and reached the final. The return of key players like Rodri, Oscar Bobb, and Nathan Aké is a significant boost for the club.
Only 20 Players Will Be Selected for the Final Squad
Out of the 28 players who traveled to London, only 20 will be included in the final squad. Among them is Khusanov. For him, this is not only a personal chance but also an enormous opportunity to represent the honor of our country on an international stage.
The player is physically and mentally ready, and now the decision lies with Josep Guardiola. If Guardiola trusts Khusanov and gives him playing time in the Cup final, it will become a new historical chapter for Uzbek football.
The Zamin.uz editorial team wishes good luck to City in the final, and to Abdukodir, confidence and opportunities. What do you think—should Khusanov participate in this match? Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
