Football discussions in our country are heating up more and more. In particular, talk about the possible appointment of a new head coach for the national team is not leaving fans indifferent. In this regard, experienced football expert Alisher Nikimbaev participated in SPORTS.uz’s “3-in-1” podcast and specifically addressed this topic.
In his speech, he emphasized that what matters is not which coach, but how long he is coming for and with what task. According to Nikimbaev, if the coach is invited for a year or a year and a half, then the goal must be clearly defined: is it to qualify for the World Cup, to play well in the Asian Cup, or just to come “for show”?
According to him, more than half of the current squad's players are over 30 years old. This points to a coming generational change in the near future. Therefore, the coach must be responsible not only for results, but also for building a new national team.
Nikimbaev said: “Today it’s Löw, tomorrow it’s Bilić – if they come only for one tournament, such a change will be short-lived. We don’t need success, we need stability. Should we trust specialists like Kapadze, who know the new players well? Or should we rely on a foreign coach who will work with a long-term plan? Only the UFA will decide this.”
He also recalled that Katanec’s style was adapted to the players, but was criticized by fans and journalists. This shows that both the playing style and the generation are in need of renewal.
Nikimbaev concluded his words as follows: “We speak, we analyze, but the decision is made only by those who manage the national football system. They must feel the responsibility and make the right choice.”
