A much-anticipated sensation in Uzbek football did not happen. Joachim Löw, the legendary coach who led Germany to the 2014 World Cup title, will not be working with our national team.
The Offer and the Online Meeting
As is known, the Uzbekistan Football Association sent an offer of cooperation to Löw several weeks ago. According to Bild, negotiations took place online with the support of the Uzbek Embassy in Berlin. During the meeting, Association representatives detailed the project plans, the national team’s future goals, and working conditions.
Löw, in turn, said he needed several days to seriously consider the offer. Despite the meeting being warm and businesslike, the experienced coach ultimately “politely and respectfully” declined.
Löw’s Career and Prestige
The 65-year-old is considered one of the most respected coaches in world football. In 2014, at the World Cup in Brazil, he led the German national team to victory. That same year, FIFA named him “Coach of the Year.”
Löw managed the German national team from 2006 to 2021, achieving multiple high results at European Championships and World Cups. In March 2021, he stepped down and has not managed any club or national team since.
Possible Reasons for the Refusal
Officially, Löw’s reasons for refusing were not disclosed. However, sports analysts believe it could be due to his personal plans, family matters, or unwillingness to commit to a long-term national team project.
For Uzbekistan football, this is certainly a disappointment, as Löw’s experience, reputation, and tactical knowledge could have taken the national team to the next level.
Next Steps
The UFA is expected to continue negotiations with other candidates for the head coach position. Fans hope an official decision on the new head coach will be announced in the coming days.
One thing is clear — even without Löw, the national team’s goals remain the same: to become a leader in Asia and compete with dignity at the World Cup.
