Will Fatih Terim become head coach of Uzbekistan’s national team?

The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) is searching for a new head coach for the national team, which has secured a place at the 2026 World Cup. Previously considered candidate Joachim Löw declined the offer, after which attention shifted to another well-known specialist.

According to Championat.asia citing foreign sources, UFA is currently negotiating with 71-year-old Turkish coach Fatih Terim. The famous manager has asked for time to consider Uzbekistan’s offer and has not yet given a final decision.

Fatih Terim is recognized not only in Turkish football but also across Europe as a highly respected coach. In 2000, he won the UEFA Cup with Galatasaray, and he led the Turkish national team at the European Championships in 2008 and 2016. He also managed Fiorentina and Milan in Italy, as well as Panathinaikos in Greece.

Interestingly, despite his long career, Terim has never coached at a World Cup. If he accepts the offer, he could have a historic opportunity with Uzbekistan’s national team.

No details about financial terms or contract duration have been disclosed yet. If he agrees, Terim is expected to start immediately.

It is worth noting that his last job was with Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab, where he worked for half a year.

In conclusion, Uzbekistan is seeking an experienced coach capable of preparing the national team for major tournaments. Should Fatih Terim accept the challenge, it would mark a new chapter both for the country’s football and for his personal career.
