Boyarskiy apologized for his words about female referees

Football commentator Aleksandr Boyarskiy caused controversy during the Youth Football League – 3 (YFL-3) match between “Rodina” and “Zenit” after making derogatory remarks about female referees. This was reported by Pravilamag.

In the second half of the game, referee Arina Stanovaya awarded a penalty to “Rodina,” after which Boyarskiy made negative comments about women referees live on air. He harshly stated that “women’s football is for women, while in men’s football funny things always happen.” The commentator also advised women to “have children” and “take care of their families.”

Shortly after, Boyarskiy apologized for his statements:

“I spoke wrongly and fully realized it. My words about refereeing are completely unacceptable in the work of a commentator. In fact, I do not believe there is no place for women in men’s football. On the contrary, women are the beauty of football,” he said.

The “Rodina” football club announced that it would temporarily suspend Boyarskiy from working at matches because of his comments. The club’s statement said:

“ Aleksandr Boyarskiy’s remarks about women in football were inappropriate and offensive and are completely contrary to the values of ‘Rodina’. In response, we will organize special events dedicated to women’s football,” the message said.
