Manchester City has dramatically renewed its squad over the past two transfer windows. As a number of experienced players left the club, they were replaced by many new players.
At the same time, Pep Guardiola has not been able to fully resolve all the issues related to the squad. Despite many innovations from defense to attack, the team's main sore spot remains the right wing of defense.
Since the beginning of the season, Riko Lewis, Mateusz Nunes, and Uzbekistani legionnaire Abdukodir Khusanov have been tested in this position. Among them, Husanov was the one who justified the trust and earned the recognition of fans. Known as a central defender, Abdukodir firmly closed the right wing in the derby against Manchester United and was considered one of the best players of the match.
Experts from the influential cityxtra.co.uk publication also discussed the main problems and solutions within City, highlighting Guardiola's views on the young defender. The Spanish coach noted that although Khusanov's versatility and physical fitness are highly valued, it is difficult to regularly entrust him with the right wing.
"We play every three days, no footballer can permanently handle such a schedule. Khusanov covered the wing with his strength and speed, performing very well. However, relying solely on one player in such a position is dangerous," Guardiola said.
At the same time, City is considering adding experienced right-back players for the new transfer window. Inter Milan player Denzel Dumfries and Newcastle's Tino Livramento are currently being mentioned as candidates.
At the same time, Abdukodir Khusanov remains a very important figure for the club. He can play reliably both in the center of defense and on the wings and is noted as a player of great importance in the rotation of the squad.
Fans are already eagerly awaiting the Uzbek legionnaire's return to the starting lineup for the upcoming matches.
