After the 8th round of the Spanish championship, the AI-based model of the Opta Center recalculated the battle for the title. Interestingly, despite a heavy defeat at Sevilla's home ground, the reigning champions Barcelona's chances of retaining their title remain at the highest level: according to the model estimate, the Catalans have a 46.6% chance of reaching the finish line first.
At the same time, Real Madrid, which returned to the top of the table after the 8th round, has almost the same chance - 46.55%. That is, the real battle for the title is still going on freely between the two grants, and the difference is within the limits of statistical error.
For other clubs, the situation is much more complicated: according to the Opta model, winning the championship by any team other than Barcelona or Real Madrid is currently considered a sensational scenario.
The model is updated after each round and takes into account such indicators as the teams' current form, combination play, injuries, opponents' calendar, and goal passing/hit metrics. Consequently, the outcomes of upcoming rounds, especially direct duels, can easily change the balance of probabilities. For the fans, the main intrigue is clear: La Liga's historic two-horse marathon has started again, who will cross the finish line first?
