Valery Kechinov, the legendary Pakhtakor and Spartak forward and former player of the Uzbekistan and Russia national teams, has commented on Fabio Cannavaro's appointment as the White Wolves' head coach.
Kechinov said that it is difficult to assess his style and results because he has not closely observed Cannavaro's coaching career. Nevertheless, he noted that Fabio was at a very high level as a player, and that this experience and personal prestige would benefit the national team. "I think this is a very important step for Uzbekistan. The change of coach is not without reason - there were serious reasons for this," Kechinov said in an interview with a championat.com correspondent.
According to the expert, Cannavaro will bring the team, first and foremost, discipline, compact tactical order, and reliable play in defense. At the same time, he added that the team is currently in the process of preparing for the World Cup, and it is logical for the management to rely on a strong person at such a time.
Kechinov also noted that if the new headquarters works in cooperation with local specialists, they will be able to quickly sense the players' mentality and internal atmosphere. In his opinion, these factors can quickly become a result on the field.
In conclusion, Kechinov wished Cannavaro good luck and said he would look forward to a new chapter of the White Wolves: "Fabio is a man who has seen a lot in big football. I believe it will bring new spirit and confidence to the Uzbekistan national team."
