After the friendly match against the Dominican Republic (1-0), Uruguay's head coach Marcelo Belza answered journalists' questions at a press conference.
The renowned Argentinian manager admitted he was not fully satisfied with the team's performance. According to him, some new players were given opportunities in this match, but the team failed to fully demonstrate its potential.
"Today I tested new players. But I wasn't satisfied with the game - our efforts weren't at the expected level. This shouldn't happen in the game against Uzbekistan. This team will participate in the world championship, so we need to take the opponent seriously. Moreover, they recently had a head coach change," said Belsa.
Journalists asked whether he had watched the Uzbekistan national team's game. Belsa stated that he hasn't studied the opponent yet, but the team will soon begin preparations for the match.
"I haven't watched the Uzbekistan game yet. Now let's focus our attention on this debate. The squad will be determined one day before the game," the coach said.
As a reminder, the international friendly match between Uzbekistan and Uruguay will take place on October 13th. The match kicks off at 5:45 PM Tashkent time.
Based on the coach's assessment, the Uruguay national team is taking this match seriously and is likely to field a number of experienced players in the starting lineup.
