Cristiano Ronaldo could not convert a penalty in the Portugal - Ireland match

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to justify the trust of a penalty in the 75th minute of the World Cup 2026 qualifier between Portugal and Ireland. The Portuguese won the right to take an 11-meter penalty at that moment, but Ronaldo’s shot was successfully saved by Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Up to that point, the score had not been opened and this situation did not change it either, reports Betnews.by.

Interestingly, four penalties were missed in the day’s matches. Besides Ronaldo, the players who failed to convert their penalties were: Erling Haaland (Norway – Israel), Mateo Retegui (Italy – Estonia), and Ferran Torres (Spain – Georgia).
