Makhachev changed weight after losing motivation

Rizvan Magomedov, the manager of Russian UFC fighter Islam Makhachev, revealed the athlete's recent important decision. According to it, Makhachev decided to give up the lightweight (70 kg) championship belt and move to a new trial - the welterweight division (77 kg).

The manager noted that this decision was not difficult for the fighter. "This decision wasn't difficult for him at all, because he had been thinking about it for a long time. One day Islam told me "I'm losing motivation, protecting the belt is now becoming a normal thing." He was even afraid of not being able to take the preparations seriously. Therefore, by switching to a new category, he rediscovered that internal fire," Magomedov said.

According to the manager, Makhachev is also striving to achieve high results in the new weight class. "Now he is in a completely different mood. This new stage rekindled the spirit of competition within him. Of course, he had planned this decision in advance, but Belal was somewhat hesitant since Mohamed was the champion. And now everything has fallen into place," he added.

As a reminder, Islam Makhachev will have his first fight in the new category at UFC 322 on November 16th. His opponent will be the welterweight champion, Australian Jack Della Maddalena.

This fight could be not only a debut for Makhachev in the new weight category, but also a historic one - if he wins, he will join the ranks of UFC stars who have won championships in both weight categories.

With this, Makhachev set off for his new goal - to prove his superiority in the new division.
