Famous Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo recalled the interesting story of his failed transfer to Arsenal in a recent interview. According to him, this event was one of the important turning points that changed the direction of his entire career.
In an interview with journalist Pierce Morgan, Ronaldo openly admitted that in his youth, he was on the verge of a choice between two major English clubs - Arsenal and Manchester United. He emphasized that almost everything has been decided, and he has even personally met with Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.
"Yes, that's exactly what happened," says Ronaldo. "Everything was agreed upon with Arsenal, I was very close to the London club. But in life, sometimes everything changes in a minute. Sporting then faced Manchester United in a friendly match, and I proved myself in that game.
After that argument, Ferguson told John O'Shea: "We'll take this boy no matter what, he must be ours." Thanks to this, my fate changed.
According to the football star, this decision did not arouse any animosity towards Arsenal; on the contrary, it preserved his respect for the club.
"I don't see Arsenal as a rival," said Ronaldo. "When they win, I'm only happy about it." Because at one time I could have been among them. "This story is one of the unrecorded directions of life," he added.
Thus, Ronaldo's youth choice led him to "Old Trafford," where he became a real star. He gained worldwide recognition at Manchester United, became a legend at Real Madrid, and continues to inspire millions of fans by playing for Al-Nassr at the age of 39.
