In an interview with journalist Pierce Morgan, Ronaldo openly admitted that in his youth, he was on the verge of a choice between two major English clubs - Arsenal and Manchester United. He emphasized that almost everything has been decided, and he has even personally met with Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.
"Yes, that's exactly what happened," says Ronaldo. "Everything was agreed upon with Arsenal, I was very close to the London club. But in life, sometimes everything changes in a minute. Sporting then faced Manchester United in a friendly match, and I proved myself in that game.
After that argument, Ferguson told John O'Shea: "We'll take this boy no matter what, he must be ours." Thanks to this, my fate changed.
According to the football star, this decision did not arouse any animosity towards Arsenal; on the contrary, it preserved his respect for the club.
