Prominent Athlete Criticizes Russian Football

Four-time Olympic biathlon champion Alexander Tikhonov called the Russian national team's defeat in a friendly match against Chile a disgrace. The Russian football team lost the match in Sochi, ending their 23-game unbeaten streak.

"I will not be surprised if they lose to Mongolia as well. What can I say, this is a real shame.

The Russian Football Union needs complete reform — all staff should be dismissed, and football players should be paid very low salaries. After all, they do not know how to do anything else and are unable to even properly kick the ball," Tikhonov said in an interview with "VseProSport."

Before the game against Chile, the Russian national team had played a 1-1 draw with Peru in Saint Petersburg. Meanwhile, Russia's head coach Valery Karpin recently announced that he had resigned from his position as head coach of Moscow's "Dynamo" club to focus solely on the national team.
