The Nigerian national football team, which includes "Atalanta" forward Ademola Lookman, failed to secure a spot in the FIFA World Cup. In the decisive match, they lost to the DR Congo team.
Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Stefano Agresti commented on the situation. "The former Europa League king, the man who led 'Atalanta' to their first European tournament victory, and Africa's best footballer in 2024—he has clearly strayed from the right path," Agresti stated.
"His problems began during the summer. At the time, he decided to cut ties with the 'Bergamo' club and move to 'Inter'."
"The player made the wrong decision and took a cowardly path. It became difficult for him to regain his form.
He scored only one goal for the club and experienced significant disappointment with Nigeria on the international stage. He did everything wrong," the journalist added.
Lookman voluntarily skipped 'Atalanta's' training sessions, hoping the management would approve his transfer to another team. Later, he returned to the club and managed to rejoin the main lineup.
