Following a 1-1 draw with Girona in the 14th round of La Liga, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso commented on the team's performance and current season. He emphasized that the team's failure to perform at their usual level in some games requires serious attention.
Alonso noted that the teams will go through different stages throughout the season. While Real Madrid played more confidently away from home in the first half of the season, this stability has been lost in recent matches.
"Today we played quite actively in the second half. We equalized the score and created three or four clear chances for the second goal. However, playing according to the high standards that Real Madrid has set for itself is our main task," the coach said.
He also emphasized the team's psychological preparedness and collective reaction. After the goal, the coach was satisfied with the players' character, their desire to act in unity, and their struggle for victory.
At the same time, Alonso admitted that the team had not been able to gain an advantage for a long time during the game:
"We need to deeply analyze why this happened. We have the desire to win away, but some details are affecting the game. The season is long, we must restore our usual pace."
The Madrid side aims to strengthen their position in the fight for leadership in the next rounds.
