Mainz appoints new head coach

The search for a new head coach for Mainz 05 has concluded, according to the club's sporting director Christian Heidel. This was reported by Kicker magazine.

"We believe we have found the right head coach. He is the person we think fits our current situation," said Heidel.

Other sources suggest that this individual might be Urs Fischer, the former head coach of Union Berlin. Currently, Mainz occupies the last position in the Bundesliga standings, having secured only one win this season.

The team's previous head coach, Bo Henriksen, left the club this week by mutual agreement with the management. Henriksen, who was named the best coach of the Bundesliga last season, struggled to balance the team's performance in the league (18th place after 12 matches) and the Conference League (5th place after 4 matches).

Mainz is set to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening. For this match, the team will be led by youth coach Benjamin Hoffmann.
