As the 2026 World Cup approaches, one of the tournament hosts - US President Donald Trump made statements that sparked heated discussions in the football world. In his opinion, France and Spain stand out among the main favorites of the competition.
In an interview with the French television channel M6, Trump praised the French national team, praising their potential:
"France has a very strong, balanced squad. Of course, they are one of the contenders for the championship. And we, as hosts, are ready to hold the competition at the highest level - this world championship will be a real show," he said.
Shortly after, Donald Trump's remarks in an interview with Spanish journalists once again caught attention. He also praised the Spanish national team, including them among the World Cup favorites:
"Spain has always been a team that demonstrates a balanced, meaningful game. Their composition, style, and spirit are beautifully formed. "I love Spain very much, and I think they have a great chance of becoming champions," the US President said.
Donald Trump's warm and supportive attitude towards both teams further fueled the interest surrounding the World Cup. In the upcoming major football tournament, both France and Spain appear to be contenders for the real title.
