Matvey Safonov's Achievements Discussed

Russian State Duma Deputy Dmitry Svishchyov shared his thoughts on Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov's recent successes with PSG. Safonov appeared in the starting lineup for two consecutive matches, keeping a clean sheet in both games.

"Safonov is an excellent player. Matvey's performance is of the highest level.

We hope that after these two matches, he will have more opportunities to play. There are speculations that Safonov's initial lack of playing time was connected to Zabarnyi.

However, I don't believe this is a political matter; it is likely the coach's strategic decision," Svishchyov stated in an interview with News.ru. During the 2025/2026 season, Safonov made his Ligue 1 debut in a match against Rennes, where he saved his team from conceding twice in the first half and initiated an attack that contributed to PSG's victory.

In that match, PSG defeated their opponent with a resounding 5-0 win. A few days later, the Russian goalkeeper also started in a Champions League match against Athletic Bilbao, where the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
