Kafanov Compares Game Quality of Safonov and Shevalye

Russia national team goalkeeper coach Vitaliy Kafanov compared the playing characteristics of PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov and French player Lucas Chevalier. According to the expert, Safonov is on par with Chevalier in playing with feet and demonstrates confidence in initiating attacks.

Kafanov believes that Chevalier might have been considered by the club as an alternative to Gianluigi Donnarumma specifically because of his superior abilities in playing with feet. However, Safonov also exhibits a level close to Chevalier in this component. "Safonov is in no way inferior to Chevalier when it comes to playing with feet.

Perhaps the Frenchman was brought in to replace Donnarumma exactly because of his stronger abilities in this aspect," Metaratings.ru quoted Kafanov as saying. This season, Safonov has appeared in three matches for PSG, conceding two goals.
