Portugal national team midfielder Bruno Fernandes shared his thoughts on whether the team plays better when Cristiano Ronaldo is not on the field. According to Fernandes, he can speak openly on this topic and is well aware of what people think about it.
“Many say that we play better without Ronaldo, that the players feel freer. If that's happening, then part of the blame lies with us.
We should not let Cristiano become a factor that holds us back. He can bring a lot to the team: he’s a player of the highest level, he attracts the defenders’ attention and creates space for his teammates.
Each player contributes something to the team and takes something away. Cristiano is just like the rest of us, a member of the team.
We need to adapt and complement each other's strengths — that's how the national team can benefit,” Fernandes told Canal 11. The Portugal national team will participate in the World Cup this summer.
