Former CSKA footballer Valeriy Masalitin shared his thoughts on the possibility of recalling Akron striker Artyom Dzyuba to the Russian national team. According to Masalitin, Dzyuba could be invited to the national team if he is in good athletic form.
However, he emphasized that Dzyuba is currently not suitable for the national team based on sporting principles. "Dzyuba's best years are behind him, but he could be called up for the record," Masalitin said, as quoted by "Gazeta.Ru".
It should be recalled that the 37-year-old Dzyuba is the highest-scoring player in the history of the Russian national team with 31 goals. At the same time, there is a possibility that the goal recently scored against the German national team could be reassessed. Currently, that goal is credited to Andrey Arshavin.
If that goal is reassigned to Aleksandr Kerzhakov, then Kerzhakov will be tied with Dzyuba in terms of total goals scored. The next friendly matches of the Russian national team are expected to take place in March 2026.
