Eduard Mor Calls Safonov's Performance a Once-in-Five-Years Event

Former Spartak footballer Eduard Mor has highlighted what he believes is the most significant event in Russian football for the 2025 calendar year. According to him, the recently held Intercontinental Cup final deserves particular attention: Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov saved four penalty kicks during the shootout, securing the trophy for PSG.

“The four penalties saved by Safonov. I believe this is not only the main event of the year but the most significant in the last five years.

The whole world watched, and Safonov was on everyone’s lips,” said Mor, as quoted by Metaratings.

It should be noted that during the penalty shootout that followed the match, Safonov sustained a serious injury, with a confirmed bone fracture. It is expected that the Russian goalkeeper will be sidelined for approximately one month and will not feature for PSG during this time.
