Le Parisien has named Matvey Safonov, the Russian goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), as the club's best player for December. Notably, the Russian footballer saved four penalty kicks from Flamengo players during the Intercontinental Cup match last week, helping PSG secure the trophy.
Previously, no player had ever saved four penalties in a post-match shootout during FIFA-sponsored tournaments. It is worth mentioning that, for the last four months, PSG midfielder Vitinha was considered the team’s best player, according to Le Parisien.
This is Safonov’s second consecutive season with PSG. Last season, he replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma and played 17 official matches.
