The tragedy claimed the life of 34-year-old Sebastian Gertner. He previously played for several lower-tier clubs in Germany and had also been called up to the country’s youth national team.
Gertner passed away during a vacation in Montenegro as a result of an unusual traffic accident: two gondolas transporting people to the start of a ski slope on a mountain collided. The footballer fell out of the cabin and plunged 70 meters downward.
His spouse, although injured, survived the incident. She sustained a broken leg and was hospitalized. The tragedy occurred in the Durmitor mountain range, near the town of Žabljak, around the Savin Kuk peak (2,313 meters).
