Former CSKA football player Dmitry Khomukha shared his thoughts on Matvey Safonov’s prospects at Paris Saint-Germain. According to Khomukha, the Russian goalkeeper has a realistic chance to compete with the Parisian team's primary goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier.
“He needs to be in excellent psychological condition. As soon as his injury allows him to start training, his chances in the competition against Chevalier are very high,” Khomukha was quoted as saying by Gazeta.ru.
This season, Safonov spent a considerable stretch without game practice, sitting on the bench for the team’s first 20 matches. However, he was eventually given an opportunity and participated in four consecutive games.
