Eriksen says modern football pays less attention to the game itself

Wolfsburg midfielder Christian Eriksen shared his thoughts on the direction modern football is heading. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

According to the Danish footballer, numbers are being discussed more than what happens on the pitch: statistics, GPS data, high-speed runs and various metrics have taken center stage.

Eriksen believes that as a result, football is losing players with distinctive styles — classic “number 10s” and wingers known for their dribbling are becoming increasingly rare.

He also added that today players are more often expected to adapt to a team system than to rely on standout individual qualities.

This season, the 33-year-old midfielder has made 13 appearances for Wolfsburg and provided 3 assists.
