State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchyov commented on the events that took place in Venezuela on January 3. According to him, after an operation carried out by the US military, the country’s leadership changed and former president Nicolás Maduro was detained. This was reported by euro-football.ru.reports.
Svishchyov said that even against this backdrop, the chances of stripping the United States of the right to host the FIFA World Cup are extremely low. In a comment to Match TV, he did not rule out that some might boycott the tournament, but he did not consider it a realistic scenario.
As a reminder, the next World Cup will be the first in history to feature 48 teams. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19 and is set to take place at stadiums in Mexico, Canada and the United States.
