Real Madrid have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of head coach Xabi Alonso. The Spanish specialist had been in charge since the summer of 2025, and during his tenure the team achieved many important results.
The club wrote on its official website: “Our team thanks Xabi Alonso and his coaching staff for their work, dedication and commitment, and wishes them success in the next stage of their careers.”
Alvaro Arbeloa, who has been in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, will take over as the new head coach. The former Spanish defender represented the “Royal Club” from 2009 to 2016, made 238 official appearances in all competitions and won 8 trophies with the team.
At the moment, Real Madrid sit second in the La Liga table with 45 points after 19 matches. Under the new coach, the team aims to achieve even better results in upcoming La Liga fixtures and on the European stage.
So, while saying goodbye to Xabi Alonso may be emotional for the club’s fans, a new era under Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to bring fresh opportunities and renewed strategies.
