Young and talented figure skater Ilya Malinin once again demonstrated his skills and won his third gold medal at the World Championships. This achievement is all the more significant because it came just a month after his unsuccessful participation in the Winter Olympics.
During the prestigious competition held in the Czech capital Prague, Malinin left all his rivals behind and took the lead with complete superiority. According to the final results, he left behind his main rival from Japan Yumu Kagiyama by a margin of 22.73 points. The bronze medal went to another representative of Japan, Shun Sato.
Malinin, who could not hide his emotions after the victory, said: “That's it, it's over. "To be honest, I thought I wouldn't be able to do the free skate perfectly, but everything went better than I expected," she said. She scored a total of 329.40 points for both programs.
Of course, this figure did not reach her record of 238.24 points for the free skate, which she set in December at the Grand Prix Final. At that competition, she performed seven quadruple jumps, including the famous quadruple Axel. This time, five quadruple jumps were enough to win the championship.
Interestingly, Malinin sensationally failed to win a medal at the Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, in February of this year. The athlete, who was in the lead after the short program, fell twice in the free skate, and ultimately finished in 8th place. The gold medal in that competition went to Mikhail Shaydorov from Kazakhstan.
Ilya Malinin was born in 2004 in Virginia, USA, to famous Uzbek figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov. His sister Elizaveta is also involved in this sport.
It is worth noting that Tatyana Malinina is the winner of the first Four Continents Championship held in 1999, the champion of the Grand Prix Final of that year and a 10-time champion of Uzbekistan. Roman Skornyakov is a two-time national champion and has defended the honor of Uzbekistan at two Olympics.
In short, Malinin was able to draw the right conclusions from his defeats and in a short time returned to the top of the world. This once again proves what real champions are like.
