Italian ministers strongly reject World Cup proposal

In recent days, a topic causing widespread discussion in international media has been the proposal for the Italian national team to participate in the upcoming World Cup in place of Iran. However, this idea was flatly rejected by Italian officials, who took a serious stance on the matter.

Specifically, Italian Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi emphasized that such an initiative is absolutely unacceptable. In his view, the right to participate in football must be decided solely through results on the pitch, not through any negotiations or political decisions. The minister stressed that sport must be based on the principles of justice and competition.

"This is inappropriate in any situation, and certainly for Italy! The right to participate is earned on the football field, not at the negotiating table," the Italian Minister of Sport said.

At the same time, Italian Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti also expressed a very sharp opinion regarding the proposal. He stated that qualifying for the World Cup in such a manner would be entirely inconsistent with the country's honor and reputation. According to him, for a country with a rich football history like Italy, obtaining a tournament berth through an "easy path" is an absolutely unacceptable situation.

"This proposal is an embarrassment! Italy does not need such help, and reaching the World Cup in this way is completely beneath the country's dignity," said the Italian Minister of Economy.

For reference, the next World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This tournament is significant as it marks the first time the event is being organized jointly by three nations.

In conclusion, Italian officials have chosen a clear position: football is solely a sport, and places within it must be earned through hard work and results on the field, not negotiations.
