Lopez, who opened the scoring in the match, showed Yamal's characteristic "304" gesture during the goal celebration. With this, he supported his 18-year-old teammate who is currently undergoing the recovery process. Yamal responded to this gesture on social media and expressed his affection for his friend.
In an interview after the game, Fermin Lopez explained the reason for the gesture. "I dedicated the goal to Lamine because we came up to the senior team together. It really upset me that he can no longer play," said the 22-year-old footballer. This situation once again showed the unity in the Barcelona dressing room.
Head coach Hansi Flick remains calm about Yamal's injury. According to the coach, the player will return to the squad within 4–6 weeks and will be ready for the World Cup with the Spanish national team. Flick decided not to rush the young talent in the recovery process in order to protect his health.
The 2:0 victory over Getafe brought Barcelona even closer to the championship. The Catalans moved 11 points ahead of their nearest pursuer in the league standings. The team will now focus its full attention on the next round's match against Osasuna.
