Belgium national team forward Romelu Lukaku has been fined by Napoli management for traveling to his homeland without authorization. Instead of returning to Italy after the March international break, the player preferred to treat his injury in Belgium. Goal.com reports on the matter.
According to Italian publications, the 32-year-old striker will return to Naples on Monday to join training sessions. Lukaku has not met face-to-face with head coach Antonio Conte since the end of March and sought independent medical assistance, bypassing the supervision of club doctors.
Club sporting director Giovanni Manna did not hide his dissatisfaction with the player's behavior. He emphasized that the interests of the team and discipline stand above any individual.
Due to injuries, Lukaku has played only 64 minutes this season, managing to score one goal.
Conte had personally requested the purchase of the striker from Chelsea for 30 million euros. However, the player's arbitrary actions and poor results are casting doubt on his future with the team.
