A press conference featuring Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro has begun. The Italian expert shared his thoughts on the preparation process, player selection, and primary goals ahead of the World Cup.
Cannavaro emphasized that the national team is approaching the World Cup seriously, and the preparation process is currently proceeding at a high intensity. The coaching staff is closely monitoring the players' physical condition, match practice, and overall readiness.
"We are preparing seriously for the World Cup and working very hard. We are all looking forward to flying out to the tournament," said Cannavaro.
The Italian expert also touched upon the process of selecting players for the national team. He stated that since his appointment, he and his staff have been monitoring all candidates. Players who were not called up have not yet fully earned the coaches' trust with their performances.
"After I was appointed head coach, my staff and I monitored all the players. If someone was not called up to the national team, it means they have not yet convinced me enough with their game," he emphasized.
Cannavaro also stated that he did not consider age as a primary criterion when selecting players. In his view, the most deserving players who have proven themselves and are currently ready have been called up to the national team.
"I did not pay attention to the players' age when selecting them for the national team. I called up those who have proven themselves and are worthy," the coach said.
Cannavaro also noted that the training camp began last week and the team participated in a friendly match. Currently, the main focus is on improving the players' physical conditioning.
"We started the camp last week and played a friendly match. We are now working on improving the team's physical condition. All players are working with full effort. The goal is to further strengthen the team's physical readiness," said Cannavaro.
The expert also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Uzbekistan Football Association. He said that all necessary conditions are being provided for the national team's preparation.
"I would like to express special thanks to the Association's leadership. They are providing all the necessary conditions for us," he added.
As a reminder, the Uzbekistan national team will face Colombia, Portugal, and DR Congo in the group stage of the World Cup.
