Fabio Cannavaro reveals World Cup and Asian Cup plans

Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro shared detailed insights into the team's preparation process, friendly matches, player selection, and future goals ahead of the World Cup. It is clear from the Italian expert's words that the national team is preparing for this historic World Cup not just as a participant, but with the goal of gaining vast experience and reaching a new level.
Cannavaro emphasized that when selecting opponents for friendly matches, the coaching staff tried to choose strong, competitive, and useful teams. This process took into account existing data, analysis, and the team's specific needs.
"We tried to choose the strongest and most competitive opponents possible for the friendlies. By maintaining constant communication with the coaching staff, we identified the most beneficial national teams for us based on available data and analysis," said Cannavaro.
The expert specifically noted that the matches against Canada and the Netherlands would be important tests for our team. In his opinion, Canada, as the tournament host, will create a high-level football environment and a strong atmosphere, which will provide great international experience for the Uzbek players.
The Netherlands is considered one of the strongest national teams in Europe. Cannavaro noted that the team's style of play and tactical approach are in some ways similar to the Portugal national team. This could serve as useful preparation ahead of the match against Portugal in the World Cup group stage.
The Italian coach also acknowledged the effective cooperation established by the Uzbekistan Football Association with international federations. According to him, it is precisely this cooperation that has made it possible to organize friendly matches against strong opponents.
Speaking about player selection, Cannavaro stated that every player called up to the national team was chosen from among the candidates he considered worthy. He touched upon the current condition of certain players.
In particular, Jaloliddin Masharipov was mentioned as a player with vast experience. In Cannavaro's opinion, if he returns to his optimal form, he can provide serious help to the team at the World Cup.
Regarding Abbosbek Fayzullayev, the coach noted his recent goal, his hard work, and his fighting spirit. Players like him can provide energy and extra effort for the team in major tournaments.
Cannavaro also noted that Abdukodir Khusanov and Eldor Shomurodov are currently in good shape. These two players are considered very important figures for the national team. Khusanov provides reliability in defense, while Shomurodov serves as a source of experience and leadership in the attacking line.
The expert did not hide the fact that some players are not yet in optimal form due to injuries or a lack of playing time. However, he expressed his belief that there is still time and that the players will recover and return to the necessary condition soon.
One of the most important aspects for Cannavaro is not to put excessive pressure on the players. In his view, since this is the first World Cup for Uzbekistan, the team should play on the pitch with joy and confidence rather than fear.
"The most important thing is that this is our first World Cup. Therefore, we must give the players a spirit of enjoying the game rather than excessive pressure. I believe that our team will perform worthily for our people with all their strength," he said.
At the same time, Cannavaro also spoke about the Asian Cup, which will take place in January. He emphasized that the opponents in the group are strong and interesting, and that every match requires serious preparation and maximum attention.
The Italian expert openly stated that one of his main ambitions is to win the Asian Cup. According to him, while the World Cup is a major experience ground for Uzbekistan, the team will fight for a concrete result in the Asian Cup.
These thoughts show that Cannavaro is setting big but realistic goals for the national team. Experience at the World Cup, fighting for a trophy at the Asian Cup — the plan is clear. Now the main task is to bring the players to their best physical, mental, and tactical condition. A historic era is beginning for Uzbek football, and now every step is important.
