Vinícius names Portugal as one of the World Cup favorites

Real Madrid and Brazil national team forward Vinícius Júnior has assessed Portugal's chances ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The Brazilian star stated that he views the team led by Roberto Martínez as one of the tournament favorites.
As known, Portugal will face DR Congo, Colombia, and Uzbekistan in the group stage. In this group, the Portuguese are considered one of the main contenders in terms of experience, star power, and individual skill.
In Vinícius's opinion, the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portuguese squad gives the team extra strength and a psychological advantage. He also included Vitinha and João Neves among the most talented players of their generation.
"Is Portugal one of the favorites? Yes, I think so. Ronaldo plays there, and his presence is of special importance. They also have Vitinha and João Neves, who are among the best of their generation," said Vinícius.
The Brazilian player also highlighted other key Portuguese players. He noted that he knows players like Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leão, and João Félix well and emphasized their significant impact on the team's play.
Indeed, the Portuguese squad looks very strong on paper. The team has plenty of experience, youth, speed, technique, and attacking potential. However, at the World Cup, it is not just squad strength that matters, but also team discipline, resilience under pressure, and composure in decisive moments.
It is worth noting that Portugal has never won the World Cup. Brazil last lifted the trophy in 2002. Therefore, both footballing nations are heading into this tournament with big dreams and serious ambitions.
In short, Vinícius Júnior considers Portugal one of the favorites for the 2026 World Cup. The experience of Ronaldo, the talent of Vitinha and João Neves, and the speed of Leão, Félix, and Nuno Mendes make the Portuguese a dangerous opponent. Now they must prove this strength on the pitch — stars on paper do not win trophies alone.
