Kai Havertz equals Cristiano Ronaldo's record by scoring in the Champions League final

Arsenal's quest for their first Champions League title began brilliantly in Budapest. Kai Havertz opened the scoring against PSG in the opening minutes. The German, who scored the winning goal for Chelsea in the 2021 final, has once again etched his name into European football history. This is reported by Goal.com .

In just the fifth minute of the match, Havertz broke through from the left flank and slotted the ball into the net from inside the penalty area. With this goal at the Puskás Aréna, he became the third player in history to score in Champions League finals for two different clubs. Previously, only Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United and Real Madrid) and Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich and Juventus) had achieved this feat.

Mikel Arteta's men took control of the game following the goal. Having triumphed in the Premier League, Arsenal are now aiming for a historic "double". Before the match, Luis Enrique acknowledged the growth of the opposition, stating that their English title was no fluke and that Arteta had built a perfect team over six and a half years.

Statistically, the last 11 teams to open the scoring in Champions League finals have all gone on to lift the trophy. The last time a team took the lead and lost was in 2014, when Atletico Madrid went ahead but eventually fell 4-1 to Real Madrid. For Arsenal, this is their second opportunity since the 2006 final against Barcelona.

PSG entered the pitch as the defending champions. Having defeated Inter 5-0 in last season's final, the Parisians are looking to defend their title. However, Havertz's early goal has seriously disrupted Luis Enrique's plans.
