Realtek brings 10 Gbps speeds to the masses

Realtek brings 10 Gbps speeds to the masses
Realtek has announced a new series of network controllers that support 10 Gbit/s speeds, aiming to make high-performance networking more accessible and affordable, reports VGTimes.

The RTL8127 is the base model, covering speeds from 10 Mbit/s to 10 Gbit/s, with power consumption under 2W. For laptops and slot-limited devices, Realtek offers the RTL8159, which connects via USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 and still reaches 10 Gbit/s.

The RTL8127ATF targets optical connections and consumes only 1W of power.

A major step forward is Realtek’s new 10G PHY chip, designed to lower the cost of routers, switches, and SFP+-RJ45 converters — products that have traditionally been expensive and limited to enterprise use.

According to insiders, these chips are expected to cost around $50. The first motherboards with built-in 10G ports should launch by the end of 2025, while standalone adapters are planned for Q4.

Experts believe Realtek’s new products could significantly accelerate adoption of 10G networking in both consumer and business environments, especially as demand grows for cloud storage and 8K streaming.
