Google Assistant is retiring — Gemini takes over
Google has sent out a notice to users announcing the phase-out of Google Assistant, reported Rozetked. From now on, all major system functions will be handled by Gemini — even offline.

The transition from Google Assistant to Gemini is nearing completion. Starting July 7, users will be able to use Gemini for standard tasks like making calls or setting alarms, without enabling the “Gemini activity” feature.

Previously, turning off that setting prevented Gemini from accessing system apps. Now, these limitations are lifted — users can access core functions without sharing personal data with Google. As a result, Google Assistant becomes redundant: Gemini handles it all.

That said, Google Assistant is still operational for now. Users can continue using it as usual, but Google plans to fully discontinue it by the end of 2025.
