Instagram takes on Snapchat with new live map feature

Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Instagram Map,” aiming to compete with Snapchat’s long-standing Snap Map, TechCrunch.com reported.

The new tool allows users to view people, events, and content around them in real time based on geolocation via an interactive map.

With Instagram Map, posts, stories, and Reels will appear according to users’ physical locations, giving them a live snapshot of what’s happening nearby.

Instagram says the feature is designed to strengthen local social connections and boost discovery of nearby content.

Snapchat has offered a similar feature for years, and now Instagram is entering the same space with its own version.

The feature will launch first in the U.S. as a test and expand globally afterward.
