A new “Robot Mall” store has opened in China’s capital, Beijing. It offers more than 100 types of products, ranging from life-size humanoid robots in the likeness of Albert Einstein to mechanical waiters. The store is considered one of the first in the country to specialise in selling humanoid and household robots.
Robot Mall operates like a car dealership, providing sales, spare parts, and maintenance services all in one place. Robot prices range from 2,000 yuan ($278) to several million yuan. Customers can try out dog-shaped models, chess-playing robots, and other interactive devices.
Next to the store is a themed restaurant where both customer service and food preparation are carried out by robots. More than 200 local and foreign brands are represented in the shopping centre.
The opening of Robot Mall coincided with the start of the five-day World Robot Conference in Beijing. The event features over 200 local and international companies showcasing more than 1,500 developments. In addition, from 14 to 17 August, the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games will be held, with teams from over 20 countries competing in athletics, dance, and football.
