A digital identification system is being introduced in the United Kingdom to confirm the right to work. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this system will reduce illegal work and provide convenience for citizens.
The digital ID will become mandatory for employment by 2029. It will include information such as name, date of birth, citizenship or residency status, and a photo, and it will be stored on a mobile phone.
The opposition and some organizations note that the new system may threaten personal data security and will not fully solve the problems. They are asking how reliable the system will be.
The government says the ID will make it possible to access services faster, simplify document checks, and reduce illegal work. Discussions and the draft law will continue in the coming months.
