Telegram has introduced a modern and convenient login method — Passkey — for its Android and iOS applications. This feature significantly simplifies the process of logging into the messenger: users no longer need to manually enter a password, wait for an SMS, or deal with activation codes. To access an account, the device’s own biometric protection or password will suffice.
Passkey is a personal access key stored either on the device itself or in trusted password managers. It is fully compatible with major ecosystem programs such as Google, Apple, Samsung, and 1Password. Crucially, the key is not sent to Telegram’s servers, meaning it cannot be accessed by the app’s employees or third parties.
When this new mechanism is implemented, the messenger identifies the user through the device's own security system:
via facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, Face ID, Touch ID, or the device password. This method is not only faster but significantly more secure than previous approaches.
With the introduction of Passkey:
• there’s no need to memorize a password;
• inconveniences such as SMS delays are eliminated;
• account security is enhanced several times over;
• logins are completed within seconds.
Activating the feature is also very simple: open the Telegram app, go to Settings → Privacy → Passkey. Here, users can manage existing keys or add a new one.
The updated functionality has already been rolled out in the latest versions of Telegram available on Google Play and the App Store. This step by the messenger further elevates user security and convenience to a higher level.
