Sandfall Interactive’s RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues to build hype among both players and critics. The project has been recognized at various ceremonies, including The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards, and has now moved closer to a major milestone in global rankings as well. According to aggregated international awards data, the game has earned 332 “Game of the Year” awards since the start of the year. This result placed it second on the all-time list and pushed it above The Last of Us Part II, which collected 326 awards in 2020.
For now, only Elden Ring remains in first place: FromSoftware’s title amassed 435 “Game of the Year” awards in 2022. That leaves Clair Obscur 103 trophies behind the record holder—highlighting just how fierce the race for the top spot is.
At the same time, in online discussions some users are openly voicing doubts and objections about award systems and judging criteria. In their view, certain ceremonies do not always reflect an impartial assessment of genre and overall quality.
On the other hand, many are praising Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as one of the standout highlights of its generation. Fans emphasize that the French team delivered a “once-in-a-decade” game—one that will be remembered for a long time.
