First power unit of Rooppur NPP fully supplied with nuclear fuel

The process of loading new nuclear fuel into the first power unit of the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh has been completed. This milestone, which began on April 28, is a key step in preparing the station for power generation. Specialists installed 163 fuel assemblies into the reactor core sequentially. This was reported by Ixbt.com news.

The project is being implemented by Atomstroyexport, the engineering division of Rosatom. In the next stage, the reactor's upper block will be installed and internal control systems connected. Following this, a series of tests will begin to verify the safety of all technological systems.

Plans include bringing the reactor to a minimum controllable power level and gradually increasing power before pilot-industrial operation. The Rooppur NPP is being built based on a Russian design and includes two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW.

The construction contract was signed in 2015, and the physical launch of the first power unit took place on April 28, 2026. Rosatom aims to fully complete the station's construction in 2027. Additionally, Rosatom's Automated Control Systems company recently announced the installation of 22 automated control and radiation monitoring systems at the station.
