A 'time machine' for future trains: New technology being tested in Kolomna

Russian Railways (RZD) has begun testing the upper track structure designed for high-speed rail (HSR) lines. This was reported on the company's official Telegram channel. A prototype of the ballastless construction was assembled at the VNIKTI testing center in Kolomna. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports.

In this project, rails and the foundation slab are joined using self-compacting concrete and laid on special mats that simulate the ground layer. Currently, the entire structure is installed on a resource test bench, and tests are being conducted in an accelerated mode.

The device is subjected to 8 pulsators: 4 are located in the horizontal plane and 4 in the vertical plane, generating an axle load of 75 tons. This figure is significantly higher than the expected impact of future high-speed trains. Special strain gauges are checking the strength of the structural elements, recording any deformation.

RZD specialists note that this 'time machine' must withstand 9 million load cycles within one month. This is equivalent to 50 years of continuous operation of the main line. This technology will ensure safe and high-speed train travel in the future.
