
According to the Ministry of Defense, during World War II (1939-1945), Uzbekistan had a population of 6.5 million and sent more than 1 million 951 thousand people to the front. Of these, 538 thousand died on the front.
During the war, Uzbekistan became an important front-line center. 280 new enterprises were built here, the production of military products was launched, and the republic took in more than 1.5 million evacuees, including 250 thousand orphans.
It is noted that today there are 82 participants of World War II and their equivalents in Uzbekistan. The oldest of them turned 114 years old.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on encouraging participants in World War II. According to it, participants in the war will receive a one-time cash award of $10,000, and persons equated to participants in World War II will receive a one-time cash award of 25 million soums each.
