During a videoconference meeting on June 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sharply criticized the current situation with road infrastructure and transport management in the country. According to the head of state, the main part of the 61 trillion soums allocated for the construction and repair of roads over the past seven years has been spent on roads of international and republican importance. However, the number of fatal accidents on these roads is very high - it is noted that 75-80 percent of them occur on these roads.
The President noted that there are still major problems in ensuring the safety of the population on the roads and the effective organization of transport flows. The quality of public transport, traffic jams in large cities, and unsatisfactory information technologies on the roads are the cause of dissatisfaction of many citizens.
Another important problem at the meeting was the location of cameras installed on the roads. The President emphasized that these cameras work only to record violations and issue fines to citizens, while in fact they should be an effective tool for managing traffic flow, reducing traffic jams and accidents.
The slow pace of work on clarifying road markings and markings at intersections, and switching traffic lights to a “smart control” system was also criticized. Attention was drawn to the fact that, despite the fact that a presentation on the regulation of traffic in the capital using artificial intelligence has been held for a long time, there have been no results in practice.
