Name change allowed during gender change in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has officially permitted citizens to change their full name — including first name, surname, and patronymic — when undergoing gender transition, nova24.uz reported.

This change applies only in rare cases of congenital conditions, such as intersex, where individuals are born with both male and female traits.

Under the updated regulation, a person who changes their gender may apply to change their full name based on a medical certificate.

A name change is also permitted in the following cases:
. In accordance with Article 15 of the Law on the State Language
. By court decision
. If the name or surname sounds unpleasant
. If the name or surname does not reflect national identity
. To return to a maiden surname
. If family members want a shared surname
. If paternity is established for a person aged 16 or older
. If the person changes gender

However, these changes are strictly limited to rare medical cases. In such cases, a medical board may approve gender and name changes following examination, diagnosis, and, if needed, surgical procedures — all based on medical documentation.
