Alimony payments have risen sharply: How much will be paid now?

Following the increase in the average monthly salary in Uzbekistan, the amounts used to calculate alimony for individuals without official income have been updated. This was reported by the Scientific Research Institute for Family and Gender.

In accordance with Article 140 of the Family Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, if an alimony payer is unemployed or fails to provide documents confirming their income, the alimony debt is calculated based on the country's average monthly salary.

According to data provided by the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement, 61 percent of alimony payers are unemployed or do not have a permanent source of income. Therefore, this update is of significant importance for many citizens.

As of April 28 of this year, since the average monthly salary in Uzbekistan has reached over 6.8 million soums, the amounts for calculating alimony for individuals without official income have also been increased.

According to the new calculations, the estimated alimony payments are as follows:

— for one child — 1.7 million soums;
— for two children — 2.3 million soums;
— for three or more children — around 3.4 million soums.

It is reported that the recalculation process is carried out automatically based on the requirements of current legislation.
